Who ate all the pies?

I’m going to be really mad if avoiding gluten fixes even 50% of my health problems. Not mad that it’s helping, but mad that not one doctor or specialist who have spent years pumping me full of tens of thousands of dollars worth of drugs didn’t just go “oh and maybe try skipping gluten for a bit to see if that helps”.

Now I know it’s way to early to be making any assumptions about things, and placebo effects blah blah. But almost a week without any gluten and my gut is not screaming in pain and keeping me awake half the night. I’m also feeling less bloated, itchy, etc etc. Basically I’m feeling less of the laundry list of symptoms associated with non-celiac gluten sensitivity, so this is definitely something worth pursuing for a few months at least. It’s not like avoiding gluten has a downside, other than gluten free foods costing a premium, and my pathological need to consume pastry when in a cafe.

No pie for me…

So you’re probably going to hear lots of comments like this, but here’s my shit anyway : I’ve been doing this whole FODMAPs ride + gluten & lactose sensitivity for about. 9 years now, so hit me up if I can help. Groceries and cafes have become a lot easier to manage (and even more so since we first found out about Dad’s gluten issues back in the late nineties, he’s never tolerated lactose).

One of my biggest helpers has been getting onto a good dietitian- I have phone consults with mine, let me know if you want details. They help with meal plans and keeping me on track, and have a lot more resources about gluten sensitivity than I do.(The alternatives to wheat are way more than rice and corn! )

I sometimes eat a small amount of gluten now. I stay away from anything but gluten free pasta, though. (San Remo gluten free seems to work best for me.) And sourdough, real, proper, sourdough from a good baker, is something you might find you can get away with once you’ve had a break for a while. Not the supermarket sourdough, it’s still too quick a rise. Quick rise wheat bread is gut trouble for me, it might be different for you.

    Feel free to ignore, obviously.
Hope you continue to feel better, though, nothing like that relief when you start feeling less draggy and crook!
